Oral surgery the best solution for impacted wisdom teeth in Longview
Dental extractions fall in to two categories, simple and surgical. A simple extraction is the most common form, and is performed when the tooth is reachable. A surgical extraction is necessary when the tooth is not accessible from above the gum line.
This procedure is typically preformed under a local anesthetic, (but other forms of sedation are available if necessary). This is the procedure used when enough of the tooth is accessible above the gum line to make it possible for Drs. Frazer or Rea to loosen and remove the tooth.
Surgical extractions
Surgical extractions are necessary when a tooth has suffered extensive damage due to trauma or decay, and is not accessible from above the gum line. This is also necessary when a tooth has yet to erupt (break through the surface of the gum), for example, an impacted wisdom tooth.
Surgical extractions can be done under local anesthetic, but sedation is available if desired. After the tooth and surrounding area are numbed, Drs. Frazer or Rea will begin by making an incision in the gum to expose the tooth. In some cases, the tooth must be divided into several pieces that will each be extracted individually. All you feel during the procedure is a little bit of pressure, but not pain. As is the case with any surgery, some swelling and discomfort are common. This can be minimized with the use of an ice pack.

Surgical extraction of a wisdom tooth
Wisdom teeth are the most frequently impacted, although it can occur with any tooth. This is when a tooth is unable to erupt, due to a lack of room. One of the biggest hazards associated with an impacted tooth is the potential for damage to neighboring teeth. The tooth puts pressure on the other teeth and can result in fractures, an increased risk of infection, or tooth decay. For this reason, it is best to have the impacted teeth removed as soon as a problem is discovered.Drs. Karen Frazer Rea and F.
