Dental implants; an affordable dental restoration in Longview

When price comparing, there are two factors to consider: upfront costs and the item’s longevity. You don’t think twice about paying more for something that will last much longer than its cheaper counterpart will. This also applies when deciding if dental implants or a fixed dental bridge is the better option for restoring a missing tooth.

Cost of a bridge versus an implant
The procedure for receiving a fixed dental bridge is cheaper than that for a dental implant, but you have to consider how long each option will last. A fixed dental bridge lasts about 10 years, but a dental implant can last the rest of your life. A clinical study on longevity of implants showed an 85 to 95 percent success rate after more than 20 years, which is when patients with fixed bridges had received or were about to receive their second replacement. Another problem with bridges is because they rely on other teeth for support, if one of those teeth develops a cavity or is damaged in any way, your bridge will have to be replaced.

When some patients lose a tooth, they may think why replace it? This is by far the most costly option. At first, the remaining teeth will stay upright and in proper alignment, but it does not take long for them to begin shifting. Once this starts, serious problems will begin. This can cause misalignment of the bite, difficulty chewing, and possible headaches. Additionally the remaining teeth will begin forming pockets that can trap plaque, which can result in the formation of cavities and gum disease. The teeth become loose as they shift, and can ultimately result in the loss of more teeth.

Once a tooth is lost, the bone around the empty socket is resorbed, but if Drs. Frazer or Rea place a dental implant, future bone loss is stopped. They are the only restoration option that can accomplish this.

Drs. Frazer and Rea will discuss your treatment options with you so that you can make an educated decision regarding what is best for you. To find out if dental implants are the best treatment option for you, call our Longview office at 903.753.3531 and schedule a consultation.
